Yak City
Yaks are very important for life in the Himalayas and especially for the nomadic people of the Tibetan plateau. Domesticated yaks number at least 12 million and are bred for tractability and high milk production. Yaks are also used for plowing and threshing, as well as for meat, hides, and fur. Their thick coats help them withstand temperatures up to -40C. In Nepal, you are likely to encounter them on the Everest Base Camp Trek where they are used as carriers on the trail.
